I am a proud member of the #Shokzsquad and I think you should be too – My Aftershokz Trekz Air Review

“Disclaimer: I received a pair of Aftershokz Trekz Air to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!”

Aftershokz is a brand I was introduced to very shortly after I was introduced to the running world on social media. I would see their products pop up on discussions about  what runners listen to during workouts, “must have” accessories and running safety. There is a good reason for that and I’ll explain.

Approximately 95% of my running workouts take place in the predawn darkness and as such I do my very best to be aware of my surroundings at all times. Prior to having a pair of Trekz Air I would alternate between generic wired ear buds and a pair of bluetooth ear buds. With the wired pair I would need to run with only one earbud in to be able to listen for traffic and anything else that might be just around the corner. This meant one ear bud was inside my shirt to prevent it from bounding around. Not ideal. The audio quality on the bluetooth ones was such that when I took one ear out I could barely hear whatever it was that I was listening to.

Another issue with both of my previous headphones was that the jostling from running for 30 minutes to an hour generally meant lots of readjustments. I don’t want to be worried about something like this while I am doing a speed workout or trying to stay in the zone during a long run. One thing that is definitely not necessary with the Trekz Air is readjustment. They are very flexible so they conform to your head and they don’t move once they are in place.

You might think that something that sits outside of your ear would like the same sound quality as something that sits over or even in your ear. I was even a little skeptical that the sound quality would be high even though I had seen the reviews. How could the outside world not distort the sound coming from these things. Well, I was definitely surprised at how wonderfully clear the sound was that came out of my Trekz Airs. I could be listening to music and hear very clearly the world around me. Bone conduction technology is AMAZING!

Let me tell you about some of the other amazing qualities of the Trekz Air headphones. One, they are very easy to use. There are two small buttons on the underside of the headphones on the right side. These control volume once they are on and the volume up button is also used to turn on and pair the headphones with your device. Simply hold the volume up to turn it on or off. There are voice prompts that will tell you when the device is powering on/off and when it is connected. The button on the left side of the headset is also multifunctional. This will be the button that you press to play and pause what you are listening to. You’ll also answer incoming calls with this buttons. You can check the battery life of the headphones, which is INCREDIBLY long, by holding down one of the volume control buttons while your music is paused.

There are many, many more functions the Trekz Airs are capable of. You can read about them here:

Did I mention that these headphones are water resistant? This was a game changer for me. Prior to having these I had to make sure I wore my hooded windbreaker so that my other headphones wouldn’t get wet. That was a hassle I was happy to leave behind. There was a threat of rain during my first race with these and I was very glad to know I could wear normal race day clothing and not have to battle with keeping the good over my head while racing just to keep my headphones dry.

The amazing features of the Aftershokz Trekz Air are seemingly endless. I now wear these just about all day long during the week at work because I can take calls, listen to podcasts and still hear questions being thrown my way by my co-workers. They are so light I forget they are there when I am not using them. I CANNOT recommend these enough. They will fit your every need when it comes to headphones and then some.

Right now you can score a pair for $30 off, which is a bargain for these. Seriously, a huge bargain. You won’t need to ever need to get another pair of headphones again. Head to bibrave.aftershokz.com and be open!
